North of that mastaba, searching for new mastabas and shafts in that place. Sand, limestone debris and dirty debris and rubble. Exposed lining of some shafts and mastabas in that place. The remains of the lining of these mastabas not yet exposed, and not yet lettered. Margin Note: G 2186 - by objects. Found in debris in that place: small limestone fragment showing middle part of a figure with a belt. Part of a head of a limestone statuette (yellow) but the head painted black. Very decayed.

Camel bringing stones for building a war store magazine west of the dark room. In which will be the various kinds of food etc.

North of this mastaba, west of G 2187. Searching for new shafts and mastabas in that place. Sand, limestone debris, rubble, dirty debris and potsherds. Some mastabas and shafts appeared in that place. Not yet numbered.

North of that mastaba in removing the old dump heap. Searching for new mastabas and shafts in that place. Sand, limestone debris, rubble and dirty debris. No lining exposed in that place.

Friday, February 23, 1940

Work on:

North of that mastaba. In exposing the remains of the lining of mastabas and the shafts. Sand, limestone debris, dirty debris and rubble. Exposed some of them, but not yet numbered and not started with them.

Today at 1:15 p.m. The Mudir, Mrs. Reisner, Miss Mary Reisner, Miss Ginger, Miss Perkins, Mr. Frank Allen and Mr. N. Melnicoff were invited from Mohammed Said Ahmed to have their lunch in the excavation. They all attended the lunch and of course that is a great pleasure was given to us. This is a happy day and I think and as I remembered it is the first time happened that the Mudir and his family took their lunch in the excavations, whether here or in the Sudan. The lunch was given in the chapel of G 2374.

Tomb No. G 5280: Length 95 centimeters, Width 32 centimeters, Thickness 18 centimeters.
Tomb No. G 5380: Length 136 centimeters, Width 46 centimeters, Thickness 18 centimeters (broken in two fragments).
