South of that mastaba to expose the foundation, drift sand. Foundation on south not yet exposed. East of this mastaba appears the lining of a big stone mastaba, and between this mastaba and G 2231 is a street running from north to south. Nothing exposed.

(2) East of G 2232
[East of the mastaba.] Exposed the lining of the mastaba excavated yesterday. East of that mastaba which is unnumbered yet another mastaba also not numbered, until we expose the whole lining of the mastaba.

(3) East and south of G 2233
[East and south of the mastaba.] Exposed the rest of the lining of the mastaba, which is south of G 2233, but it is not numbered. East of that unnumbered mastaba appears two other mastabas also not numbered.

Today was the cocktail party for the exhibition of paintings painted by Mr. J.L. Smith. Guests were 280 including Egyptians: Nokrashi Pasha the minister of interior and Sir Miles Lampson were in that party.
The cars were 113, the weather was very fine and all the arrangements were good.

In exposing the rest of the foundation of the mastaba on south, drift sand. Exposed on south in the lining of the mastaba, traces of hieroglyphic signs in sunk relief. Lining on south cleared.

Today we put the number G 2240 for the mastaba which was excavated east of G 2231.

(2) East of G 2232
Today we put the number G 2237 for the mastaba which was excavated east of G 2232.

(3) East and south of G 2233
Exposed the remains of the lining of the mastabas which was excavated east of G 2233 and numbered them, G 2241, G 2242. Also we numbered the mastaba which is south of that mastaba, G 2238.
Also east of G 2238 appears two mastabas G 2239 and G 2239a. Drawing of all these mastabas on page 785.
