Saturday, March 26, 1910

Beautifully bright day, but wind still blowing at great rate. I do not remember any storm so long continued as this one. It has cost us about two hundred dollars in extra work and is still going.

Work as before. Also started cutting through floors in section south half of fore court (vestibule) and southwest corner of town enclosure. Also started clearing off sand from north half of fore court.

In room of columns, the two bases prophesied on page 35 (indicated by the dots) were found actually in plan. In the doorway leading into inner court (court of niches = I 23) in the debris about 30 cm above floor, two pieces of stone door lintel were found, poor limestone, hieroglyphics in relief. [see photos C2868, C2869]

In the evening attended the reception given by the Iddings to the Roosevelts. Stayed the night at the Elliots.

Sunday, March 27, 1910

Work as yesterday. Many fragments of stone vessels under the houses in southwest corner of town site. Sand going out rapidly on new section.

In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Strauss (ambassador at Constantinople) to see the things found, and stayed to dinner. Took them around the pyramids by moonlight.
In the afternoon also General Sir John Maxwell (Commander Army of Occupation) and some officers to see the statue.

Monday, March 28, 1910

Day of rest. Mrs. Reisner and I went to Roosevelt's lecture at the Egyptian University. All the diplomatic corps, prominent foreigners, officers of the University, and the reporters, but not a dozen other natives. The lecture was meant for students.
