(5) G 4940
Pit A in G 4940 is now between 17 and 18 meters deep and no sign of chamber.

Quibell brought the Aga Khan and a companion to tea. At first sight, he is a most unprepossessing looking person, but a long conversation revealed a most remarkable mind. After tea, I went down with them to the Sphinx and had and long conversation on Egyptian history with His Highness. I was impressed with the deep-thinking humane spirit of the man, his interest in human things, in the great questions of life. In my interest in our talk, I am afraid I failed somewhat in the outward forms of respect one owes to a man of his position, but this feeling only came to me afterwards.

Saturday, January 2, 1915

Work as yesterday.
The debris in front of G 4820 proved to be the foundation of the floor of a later mastaba.

This debris was thrown out here over the walls of G 4820 chapel and over the decayed mud brick wall of G 4930. Then G 4813 was built on the debris.
