originally on the left side, with the head north, knees slightly bent: but on decaying had fallen slightly over on its back. The position of the feet, however, showed the original position. The head had been supported by an alabaster head-rest, which had fallen over, and the head had at the same time, been broken off. Curiously enough, the lid of the coffin was not fastened in any way to the coffin, by pegging or otherwise, and it is quite possible that this disturbance of the head was caused by the removal of gold from the neck on the departure of the last person in the tomb. In addition to the head-rest, which was in three pieces and had fallen apart, there were two alabaster jars in the corners of the coffin, and in front of the face, a mirror. Along the east side was the upper part of a decayed wooden staff. On the neck was visible a portion of a gold necklace in its original order, and in front of the breast, on the ground, a small flat gold plate, similar to that of G 2381 B. The east side of the coffin contains a similar offering inscription (with the name of Osiris instead of Anubis) to the two lines on the lid, and with the same differences as the two lines on the lid. Apparently this coffin had first been prepared for Ptah-sebw, and then re-inscribed for Ptah-shepsesy-m-thepy. The coffin had been
