covered its whole surface but this has weathered off. The stone is not in very good condition. At the left is a seated female figure with long hair. Before her is the table with bread and space is filled with tables of offering, etc. A little one a fourth of the space at the right is occupied by a series of tables of which the top row is:

The other rows are practically the same varying only in the number of [GLYPH] in the squares and in the sign in top row which in second series is [GLYPH].

I should have stated that the pit at north end of IV 2 [= G 4240] has recently been opened and very little fresh sand has drifted in.

A perfect day for work, clear warm and no wind. In the space between IV 1 [= G 4140] and IV 2 [= G 4240] lying in the sand c. 1.5 m below surface were three jars of this shape [ILLUSTRATION] lying in a line [ILLUSTRATION]. One of them had a pot mark [ILLUSTRATION] on handle. After being photographed and position noted they were moved as they were in line of trench between mastabas. They were marked P/IV.1/IX, P/IV.1/2X, P/IV.1/3X. This
