Cleared debris chamber which had been previously dug from the lower pit. Photographed the blocking in the west wall, preparatory to removing the plaster and stones.

G 7530 A: Cleared debris of door blocking from burial chamber.

Removed white plaster from blocking in west wall. Blocking consists of roughly dressed rectangular blocks of local limestone, and of some smooth dressed blocks of fine limestone. Photographed.
Removed the blocks and revealed a cutting in the wall, unfinished, about 2 meters deep. Inside was an alabaster box, with lid in place and a pottery lid on top. Fragments of charcoal were scattered on the floor and traces of a wooden carrying tray under the alabaster box.

Photographed alabaster box. Removed lid, without disturbing dust on floor, and found the box to be cut in four compartments. In each compartment was a quantity of black material deposited from a liquid, and in three compartments there was also a quantity of clear liquid. Replaced lid.

Packed limestone bust for transport to Boston.
