No. 1169: continuation of Nos. 1068 and 1073. [ILLUSTRATION].
(1)-(132) potsherds, see A4329 mostly scraps and small fragments of red brown ware jars of types 1201 and 1207, many of them badly decayed.
(133) swept up pottery dust at this level
(134) fragments of wood on north partly from the gold beams
(135) swept up "fore shore" exposing more of the layer of "gray muck" (cloth) in floor.

No. 1351:
(a) removed the shriveled fragments of the backing of the first or western line of inscription which lies face down (with the top, to west). WOOD. On examination, this backing proves to be wood permeated with fungoid spicula, on the side next to the gold are remains of a layer of plaster (carbonate of lime) now crumbled. The wood is curled towards the upside and thus probably had plaster on the down side only. [ILLUSTRATION]. Thickness of wood is now .2 +/- and was originally ca. .5 or less.
