No. 1071: resumed. See A4210.
At this level have exposed a layer of sand spaced over the area enclosed in red on A4210. The sand appears to have been moist (in a viscous state) when it ran, dribbled and dried.
(43)-(65) large fragments of the large red ware bowls and basins.

No. 1058: (h) See A4209.
The green stained wood and rubbish under 1058b. The wood is part of 1070 showing the north-south wood on western edge and the east-west wood to the east.

No. 1068: resumed. See A4208.
Dark fibrous wood decay and fungoid matter scattered over all (55)-(81).
(55), (57), (59), (62), (64), (65)-(68), (72), (74), (76), (78) are all from two large shoulders jars of fine hard red brown ware with a dull burnished surface. Type of 1201 but much larger. [ILLUSTRATION]
(63), (70), (75), (79)-(81) are from a large squat jar (as 1207) of the same material as the jar just mentioned.
The rest are mainly WSR.

No. 1073: resumed. See A4208.
This is the badly decayed pile of potsherds south of 1068.
(11)-(20) most of them seem to be from a red brown ware bowl [ILLUSTRATION]
But (13) and (20) are red polished [ILLUSTRATION] and several came from a red polished recurved rim.
(16) fragment of alabaster rim, see No. 1037.
