The position of the turned over edges is significant on all this bed frame. This indicates that the wooden seat or floor of the bed-chair was mortised to side frame.

Removed No. 720: The southwest palm capital. Inside, the wooden core was found nearly intact but shrunk to about sixty percent of its original size. With great care we inserted a half cyl. of stiff paper under the stem and slipped the core out, treated with thick solution of celluloid and amyl acetate.

This tenon (originally 1.5 x 1.5) is much smaller than the oblong mortise (hole) in the gold case 696 and 717 and 719 (5 x 3 cm). The palm capital was probably mortised to the top of a pole (plain wood) which in turn was mortised to top of bed
