Thursday, May 20, 1926

About 9 a.m. a terrific sand storm came up from the north and lasted about twenty minutes. Instead of clearing the weather, this softened rapidly and then whipped around to the south, and a typical [Arabic word] blew all day, very hot. The Plunketts came to dinner and the night seemed to be getting cool when about 9:30 there came a hot puff from the west. About 10:30 after the guests had gone, a second terrific sand storm came up from the north - blew off the roof of the dark room and did other damage. The night was miserably hot. I slept only about four hours.
