irregular (uneven surface) and was deposited by the dribbling of wood, plaster, charcoal, scraps of pottery, splinters of alabaster, etc. through the interstices of the pile of potsherds. In places the layer is ca. 5 cm deep, and rests on a very light layer of the original floor dust.

The supply of celluloid solution left me by Lucas - three liters, was unexpectedly exhausted by the treatment of 688 and 690. Sent Bedawi in (driven by Husein in car) to museum for fresh supply left there by Lucas, but found the museum closed account of Muslim New Year Day.

Finished area d and cleared e. Under a, b, d, e are traces of east-west wood resting on rock (left in place).

Resumed No. 688: T
The layer of cloth under 678. See A3958. Removed f, g, h, i and j and laid on board in order. Under all this, a thin layer of wood, a continuous sheet with east-west fibers.

Removed No. 690: The sheet of wood under 688. See A3959, B5992. Under 690 is a broken layer of gray mud (decayed plaster, wood, etc.) which lies on fragments of the big red ware basin (675). In this gray mud, near middle was a fragment of three-strand cord [ILLUSTRATION] badly decayed.
Cleaned away the gray mud ("muck") under 690 and on pile of potsherds.

No. 691 and No. 692: Remnants of floor debris along east bar of bed. Cleaned these.
