Finished clearing the chamber of the pit G 7131. The black debris continued throughout the chamber. In the floor debris were found the fragments of a limestone coffin with lid (white limestone with beautifully worked surface) but incomplete. The coffin has been broken up and part of it removed for some purpose.

Work on:
(1) street between G I-b and G I-a, [avenue G 1]

(1) Avenue G 1
Street between G I-b and G I-a. All hands were concentrated on the street between G I-b and G I-a, clearing westwards from pyramid core to pyramid core. We worked along a floor perhaps a meter above rock. On this rests a very hard debris and over that Vyse's old dump heap. [The floor is about level with the preserved top of the casing of G I-b, and probably corresponds to the Ptolemaic-Roman floor.]

On the south the men cleared through into Vyse's excavation and reached a point near the middle of G I-b. Here in the hard debris they found the battered torso of a limestone statuette [24-11-544], a fragment of limestone relief [24-11-545, 24-11-546] (Khufu's style) and three fragments of worked red granite [24-11-548, 24-11-549, 24-11-550, 24-11-551, 24-11-552, 24-11-553] (perhaps pieces of a sarcophagus).

General: Put in a switch on the east hand of the dump line.

This throws the dump eastward and leaves room for the debris from the temple of G I [Khufu Pyramid].
