work on:
(1) G I-d
(2) G 7710

(1) G I-d
A little clearing of the Old Kingdom debris over the southeast corner of this pyramid foundation was begun today. The object being to reveal the whole area of the pyramid for surveying.

(2) G 7710
[The entrance to the tomb of Iby (G 7710) is on the south side of the forecourt of Lepsius 71; to the west of this entrance (also on the south side of the court) is the entrance to the tomb of Sensnefru (unnumbered tomb); on the north side of the court is the entrance to the tomb of Itisen (unnumbered tomb).]
An expedition was made to this tomb late this evening in order to take advantage of the sharpness of artificial light shadows in reading a text almost quite illegible in the even light of day.
The owner's name seems to be [GLYPHS] Eby [Iby], his wife seems to be Mert-nebti [Meretnebti], his father (?) Eoutsen [Itisen], his mother Nufret [Nefret], his son Kay. [Kai is the son of Wepwawetbaef, who appears with his wife (name not preserved) and son Kai on the west door jamb of G 7710, opposite the east door jamb, on which Iby and Meretnebti appear.]

The occurrences of the name of Snefru is not yet quite clear.
The texts copied are as follows:

a) lintel piece near main door, north face [lintel of Sensnefru on south side of court]

[ILLUSTRATION/GLYPHS] [lintel of Sensnefru]

notes: 1) possibly [GLYPHS] [jnpw] 2) top part restored 3) wholly restored 4) [TRANSLITERATION] [wr] or [Hr (n nTr)] 5) name [GLYPHS] [snfrw]

b) lintel piece on niche door opposite, south face [lintel of Itisen on north side of court]

[ILLUSTRATION/GLYPHS] [lintel of Itisen]

notes: 1) probable, certainly a horizontal sign 2) probable 3) (?)(?)

c) on main door to south, trunk-lintel

[ILLUSTRATION/GLYPHS] [drum lintel of Iby]

d) on west side of porch in same door. Large picture of owner [not the owner Iby, but Wepwawetbaef, whose relationship to Iby is unknown] and wife walking right, their son at their feet in front. Over the son

[ILLUSTRATION/GLYPHS] [GLYPHS] [sA=f sAb sS kAj]

e) on east side of porch in same door. Similar group giving same names and titles, where these are preserved, and including the owner's name of Yby [Iby].
