Wednesday, February 3, 1915

The track was laid this morning to western edge of mastaba 2080 [= G 1227], and the men began cleaning away drift sand from around tops of 3000 and 3001. In surface sand over 3001 an unfinished limestone bowl.
Finished cleaning Pits A + B of mastabas 3042 of sand and limestone chips.
Wind from north. The ground is covered with locusts brought by last night’s storm.
4000 troops left Mena Camp for the Canal this morning. 700 were also sent back to Australia for various causes.
