across the entrance, leading to a passage sloping downwards to the south belonging to the burial chamber of this mastaba. The actual sarcophagus chamber is thus probably under the stela. We removed the stone blocking the entrance (in the position left by thieves) and entered the passage, and down to the chamber the sarcophagus is on the west side of the room (lying north-south), and is made of rough dressed limestone. The lid is raised up (and is askew) by 5 stones on the east side, and a limestone pot on the west side. In it are the badly decayed remains of a mummy, at the south of the coffin. To the west of the coffin, in the debris are at least two limestone pots of similar shape to that under the sarcophagus lid [ILLUSTRATION], and also what appears to be a shallow red ware bowl.
